Who is Northern Jurist?

After nearly a decade in the Royal Canadian Navy, I decided to pursue my passion for law and change careers. I was accepted to an excellent law school in Canada, but unfortunately, the timing was not right (long story for another time).
But, where one door closes, another one opens; sometime later, I found myself back to school in Northern Europe.
I have a master’s degree in international and comparative law. Unfortunately, this degree does not allow me to be a practicing lawyer, but it does allow me to pursue a career in the law’s academic side.

Now on to this blog!
I have started this blog while finishing my master’s thesis. I thought it would be worthwhile to share some of my thoughts and research I have done. This endeavour is primarily for me, but I hope to have people that enjoy my content and participate in the discussion.
What type of content will you see?
– Case Discussions
– Law Discussions
– Book Reviews
– Movie Reviews
– and more

My primary interests in international law are the law of the sea, maritime law, and international criminal law. I will also write about legal philosophy, legal history, and other topics I find interesting.

Can you participate?
Yes! Probably all my posts will have a comment section available. I hope that someone out there will find this stuff interesting and maybe even comment. There is also a contact page, where you can send an e-mail. Feel free.
Please try to be respectful, objective, open-minded, and further the conversation when making posts. Also, I hope to sway the content away from political discourse. I know it can be challenging to do, especially regarding law.

One last thing!

I am not a licensed or practicing lawyer. In some jurisdictions, a jurist is synonymous with a lawyer or judge. I use jurist in the sense of a legal scholar or academic and not as a professional title.  Nothing I write about should ever be taken as legal advice.
I reserve the right to change my mind on issues and positions.
